Dayvigo (Lemborexant)
Dayvigo contains lemborexant, a dual orexin receptor antagonist used to treat insomnia, particularly difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep. It works by reducing the wake-promoting activity of orexin rather than broadly sedating the brain.
Benefits:
- Helps reduce sleep-onset difficulties
- May improve sleep maintenance and total sleep time
- Can reduce nighttime awakenings
- Non-benzodiazepine sleep medication
Potential Side Effects:
- Daytime sleepiness or fatigue
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Abnormal or vivid dreams
Common Use: Usually taken once nightly shortly before bedtime, with at least 7 hours available for sleep. Food, particularly a heavy meal, can delay its effects.
Note: Lemborexant is a prescription sleep medicine and can cause next-day impairment. Combining it with alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines or other sedatives can increase CNS-depressant effects.
