Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ)
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic used primarily to treat high blood pressure and certain cases of fluid retention. It works by increasing the excretion of sodium and water through the kidneys.
Benefits:
- Helps lower blood pressure
- Reduces excess fluid retention
- Helps manage oedema associated with certain medical conditions
- May reduce cardiovascular risks associated with hypertension when appropriately prescribed
- Used by physique athletes to reduce water weight before competitions.
Potential Side Effects:
- Low potassium or sodium levels
- Dehydration and dizziness
- Low blood pressure
- Increased uric acid levels
- Changes in blood glucose
- Muscle cramps or weakness
- Can cause dangerous dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.
Common Use: Usually taken once daily, often in the morning. The prescribed dose depends on the condition being treated and individual response.
Note: Hydrochlorothiazide is not a fat-loss medication. Using it for rapid weight reduction or physique enhancement can cause serious electrolyte disturbances and kidney complications.
